The Rotary Club of Bastrop County worked with the City of Bastrop on a “Bike Racks for the City of Bastrop” project.  The objective of this project is to support Bastrop City goals for a “multi-modal transportations” approach to encourage bicycling and walking for enjoyment of the city by residents and visitors.

Officials of the City wanted bike racks which would be architecturally consistent with the landmark bridge on Chestnut Street in Bastrop.  The Rotary Club accepted this as a project to deliver a useful product to the City and also help young men in their careers in “Skilled Trades”.  This career preparation adresses a critical need for a skilled workforce needed for a community such as Bastrop and for meaningful careers for people, including leveraging upon relevant technologies, and the demand for appropriately trained skills.  The two students were graduates of Bastrop ISD and one studnet will be graduating soon from Texas State Technical College and the other will be starting his education at that fine instituion.  One of the skills learned and applied by the students is Computer Aided Design and it is possible that this will be applied to produce more bike racks effficiently for the City of Bastrop.

There will be “Ribbon Cutting Events” within the next several weeks.  One event will be at a location in the City of Bastrop where the first bike rack will be used or at City Hall.  The second event will be at Texas State Technical College in Hutto, TX.
